Brocade Offers New Products, Comes Under SEC Scrutiny
Busy Week for Storage Company

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched a formal probe of Brocade Communications Systems, in relation to earnings overstatements between 2001 and 2004. The company had already noted that it had overstated earnings by $52 million in that period.

Brocade had named a new CEO, former worldwide sales exec Michael Klayko, at the beginning of this year, and has also launched several new products within the past few weeks.

Its recent product launches aim to address complexiity, compliance, and cost in enterprise data centers, and included:

  • the Brocade Tapestr  family of application infrastructure solutions, for rapid, automated provisioning and activation of servers, software, and related application resources, as well as the industry's highest-performance Wide Area File Services (WAFS) solution.
  • the OEM availability of two additions to the Brocade SilkWorm family of SAN infrastructure solutions, with 4 Gigabit per second (4 Gbit/sec) Fibre Channel technology to entry-level and director-class SAN environments.
  • new professional service and support offerings designed to assist Brocade partners and customers to ensure best-in-class design, installation, operation, and support of their SAN and data center environments.

"Organizations of all sizes have to deal with ever-increasing demands to simultaneously manage complexity, comply with service delivery and accountability requirements, and drive down costs," said Klayko when making these announcements.

Subsequently, the SilkWorm Multiprotocol Router won an MVP award, as determined by InfoStor's readership, on the even of the Storage World Conference in Orlando.
