Terremark Selects Cisco Virtualization Technology for Infinistructure Utility-Computing Platform in Europe

Cisco announced that Terremark has launched its Infinistructure utility-computing platform in Europe with Cisco virtualization technology deployed on a Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network architecture. Terremark has just completed the deployment of the new platform in its facilities in Madrid and Amsterdam, which follows the recent launch of the Infinistructure platform based on Cisco solutions in the United States.

"The successful collaboration between Terremark and Cisco has extended to Europe, and the expansion of our Infinistructure platform will help to meet the growing needs of our customers on both sides of the Atlantic," said Joost Metten, Terremark's European chief executive officer. "Through working with Cisco, Terremark can deliver fully managed IT infrastructure services that our customers can rely on."

Terremark's Infinistructure platform is a true utility-computing solution designed to solve both the economic and capacity-on-demand shortcomings of traditional infrastructure. Infinistructure's enterprise-class server and storage infrastructure combines Terremark's proprietary digitalOps service-management platform with leading-edge virtualization technology from Cisco and other companies, providing a highly scalable and flexible high-performance computing platform. Infinistructure's on-demand network, storage and computing architecture allows customers to precisely match infrastructure requirements to business needs. The fully managed solution provides plug-and-play access to network connectivity from a large number of carriers and is connected to the ESpanix and the AMS-IX Internet exchanges.

Terremark's Infinistructure platform integrates Cisco 7600 Series Routers, Cisco Catalyst 4900 and 3560 Series Switches, and Cisco MDS multilayer SAN switches.

"The IT infrastructure needs of European businesses are not only growing but also becoming more and more diverse," said Ross Fowler, vice president of Service Providers in European Markets at Cisco. "By working together, Cisco and Terremark can help our customers address these evolving needs. We see virtualized services proliferating in Europe as it allows businesses to adapt IT resources to growth and market changes while avoiding significant capital expenditures and reducing operational expenditures."
