Kris Herrin Joins Heartland Payment Systems as Chief Security Officer
Herrin will oversee risk management, compliance of Heartland's IT security strategy and protection of consumer and merchant

Kris Herrin, a published security expert, has been named chief security officer (CSO) at Heartland Payment Systems™. Heartland (NYSE:HPY) is a leading provider of credit/debit/prepaid card processing, payroll, check management and payments services.
As CSO, Herrin leads Heartland’s overall IT security strategy and is responsible for maintaining the company’s compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) regulations, security best practices and Heartland’s own internal policies.
Herrin is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) who brings more than 10 years of international security leadership experience to Heartland. His appointment to CSO, a newly created position at Heartland, is part of the company’s dedicated strategy to protecting the data of its clients and consumers. In addition to refining and executing Heartland’s existing IT security protocols, Herrin will ensure the company continues to excel in its ongoing efforts to protect data through internal and external audits.

Prior to joining the Heartland, Herrin served as director and CSO for Intervoice, Inc., a NASDAQ-listed provider of converged voice and data solutions for the network and enterprise markets. During his tenure, he designed a comprehensive data security framework for the organization and ensured compliance with all internal and external security requirements. Herrin also held several senior level and international security positions with Alcatel-Lucent.
In addition to his professional security experience, Herrin is an adjunct professor at the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management where he has taught courses in digital forensics and information security risk mitigations. He lectures on security issues and has presented at the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Conference and the SANS Institute What Works in Mobile Encryption Summit.
Herrin received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from the University of Texas at Dallas.
