Digital Evolution Creates First XML VPN For .NET Web Services
Securing .NET B2B Web Services

Digital Evolution, a leading provider of SOA and Web services management and security software, today announced the release of the industry's first business-to-business Web services security solution for .NET Web services.

The XML VPN offers a secure platform for exchanging .NET services to business partners. It can secure any XML Web service and provides specific extensions for discovery and automated provisioning of .NET services, making Web services communication and consumption between partners easy and secure.

With the rapid adoption of SOA by enterprises and government organizations, XML and Web services have become arguably the best choice for exposing new Web services. As more and more companies create Web services using .NET, there is a need to make these services available in a secure way.

Information must be able to pass between partners so critical business processes can be supported, including inventory management, purchasing, accounting, trading and many emerging business models. According to Digital Evolution, by offering XML and Web services to partners, companies are reporting dramatic business growth and cost savings.

Paul Gigg, CEO of Digital Evolution, said, "Increasing numbers of organizations are building new applications using .NET, and are exposing .NET Web services to their partners. XML VPN for .NET helps organizations securely expose their services, and more importantly, to drive partner adoption of these services to speed time-to-value."

"Companies are increasingly using Microsoft .NET-based Web services for business-to-business interactions," said Ron Schmelzer, senior analyst with ZapThink. "Tapping into this rapid growth, Digital Evolution's XML VPN for .NET will significantly add to the capabilities of the .NET platform by helping organizations manage the provisioning and security of partner communications."

Two points:
1. XML VPN is simply a *new* marketing term for what the industry calls XML firewalls and gateways. These have been shipping (and securing live deployments) from companies like DataPower and Forum for some time now.

2. These other XML gateway solutions also secure any Web service regardless of the platform (.NET, BEA, Websphere) on which that service was developed. Its fundamental to why companies use XML and Web services in the first place.
