Anxiety Cure: NETGEAR To Use BVRP's LAN Wizard

NETGEAR is taking the fear and apprehension many Internet users feel, when confronting today's set-up requirements that use devices like routers, a departure from the plug-and-play convenience of telephone jacks. The networking company will integrate into all of its home and SMB router product lines, BVRP Software's LAN Wizard, which will be included in NETGEAR's 'Small Wizard Install Assistant.' This should not only lessen the "fear factor" networking presents to some users, but it will also reduce reliance on technical support.

NETGEAR will be including several LAN Wizard modules as it introduces its entirely new product line of home and SMB routers. A new utility, Router Set-Up and Configuration, will detect and record all information about the current account, such as domains and IP addresses. When the new router is installed, the information is accessed, and using easy to understand diagrams and pictures, users are guided through the installation, NETGEAR expects.

Mike Shields, NETGEAR product development manager, discussed why BVRP was chosen. "[Their] experience in diagnostic solutions for communications equipment like modems and NIC's (Network Interface Cards) made them our first choice for this project." He added, "Their LAN Wizard software automates many common installation and maintenance tasks to help make connecting to the Internet simpler and better."

If successful, other LAN Wizard's may be released, helping with local network installation, diagnostics, and Windows driver verification. For now, NETGEAR is content using BVRP's product with its own Smart Wizard technology, providing users with the best ISP connections possible.

"NETGEAR is a market leader in providing user-friendly network solutions," said David Wright, vice president and director of BVRP's OEM Division. "For several years we have been developing utilities to help solve technical issues when setting up and installing hardware under Windows. We are pleased that NETGEAR turned to us to help further their mission, and we look forward to expanding on the foundation this agreement has put in place."
