BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 and WebLogic JRockit 8.1 Offer Performance Gains

(March 31, 2003) - BEA Systems, Inc. has announced the general availability of BEA WebLogic Server 8.1™ and BEA WebLogic JRockit 8.1™. As the base of the BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform™, BEA WebLogic Server 8.1, an enterprise application server, is designed for building service-oriented Java applications that help solve the challenge of business integration.

With this release, BEA introduces new functionality designed to shorten development cycles, increase operational efficiency, automate business processes, and deliver an adaptive foundation that can change at the speed of business, all while reducing overall costs. Key new features and benefits include:

  • Simplified development and deployment -Provides new tools that can enable easier development and deployment, requiring less code and complexity to reduce time and development costs
  • Industrial-strength Web services security and reliability - Offers standards-based Web services functionality that incorporates secure and reliable message delivery
  • Performance gains - Provides 30 percent performance increase. Recent benchmark results achieved with BEA and Sun Microsystems Sun Fire™ V1280 server shattered previous performance records
  • Auto configuration and monitoring - Enhanced monitoring capabilities can provide visibility into the application that makes it easier to find bottlenecks and resolve issues quickly
  • Education services - BEA Education Services offers developers detailed technical training

A key element of the BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform, BEA WebLogic JRockit is optimized for the Intel platform, designed to give customers the flexibility to build and deploy a cost-effective application infrastructure on a variety of options without compromising performance. In addition to improvements in performance, support for third-party profiling and debugging tools and IA-64 platform support, JRockit 8.1 is now certified with WebLogic 8.1 and is the default JVM for server-side applications using Windows and Linux on both IA-32 and IA-64 bit architectures. Recent benchmarks published at www.spec.org prove JRockit as the highest performing JVM on both Windows and Linux for 4 CPU Intel servers.
