Oracle and Sprint Accelerate Java on Mobile Devices by Offering New Integrated Development Kit

(March 10, 2003) - Oracle Corp. and Sprint now offer integration between their J2ME environments that will make it easier and faster for Java developers to build mobile applications for the enterprise that can be deployed on PCS Vision devices.

Oracle9iJDeveloper and the Sprint Wireless Toolkit(SM) allow Java developers to create, test and debug J2ME applications using Sprint's J2ME PCS emulators in a unified application development environment. The new extension builds upon the Oracle9i JDeveloper and its J2EE and Web services capabilities, giving J2ME developers unprecedented flexibility in constructing mobile enterprise applications. Developers will be able to utilize powerful editors, deployment tools, application testing, built-in debugging and performance tuning.

Developers using Oracle9i JDeveloper can run and test their J2ME applications with PCS device emulators in the development environment and take advantage of features such as Sprint's J2ME security support and media extensions without any additional configuration or setup. Other new features include provisioning, digital rights management, over-the-air delivery and the ability to extend Web services to J2ME applications.

Oracle9i JDeveloper is immediately available for free download and evaluation from Oracle Technology Network (OTN) and can be purchased for US $995 per named user. Sprint Wireless Toolkit is free and can be downloaded at Sprint Application Developers Program Web site at http://developer.sprintpcs.com .
