Sun and Softwired Partner to Deliver Wireless Java Messaging Service for Sun One Application Server Platforms

(February 18, 2003) - Sun Microsystems and Softwired have signed a worldwide agreement to incorporate Softwired's iBus//Mobile solution into the Sun ONE platform. This agreement marks Sun's commitment to provide seamless access to Web services using Java Messaging Service (JMS) applications, dramatically enhancing the mobile enterprise environment.

The agreement combines the JMS technology of Softwired's iBus//Mobile solution with the flexible and cost-efficient Sun ONE offering. The iBus//Mobile solution runs on Java technology and encourages developers to write business applications to wireless technology in a format they understand. JMS technology guarantees wireless data delivery on any network or device at any time, anyplace.

According to Gilles Gravier, market development/segment manager, Sun Microsystems, "2003 will see more networks being put in place and Java-enabled devices produced en masse. The agreement represents a standards-based solution for the telecommunications market, with the emphasis on J2EE and J2ME through JMS. It will now be even easier for developers to create applications and content for multiple devices that are currently on the market and those devices that haven't yet been launched.”

The Sun ONE iBus//Mobile solution reduces the time to market that developers currently experience and addresses some of the key shortfalls on the market. It is available now, and version 3.2 of the product is scheduled for launch later on this year.
