JBoss to be Incorporated with WebMethods Integration Platform
JBoss to be Incorporated with WebMethods Integration Platform

(November 12, 2002) - JBoss has experienced phenomenal growth since its creation in 1999, with over two million downloads to date and a continued rate of 150,000 downloads per month. Now, webMethods, Inc. is incorporating the JBoss application server directly within its integration platform. This merging of technologies will give customers the freedom to combine business and integration logic directly within the webMethods integration platform.

The JBoss application server provides webMethods' customers with a powerful J2EE-based solution to meet their development needs. Many large and small companies are rapidly adopting this application server technology.

webMethods predicts that the incorporation of the JBoss application server within its integration platform will have numerous benefits. Customers will be able to reduce licensing and operating costs by no longer needing to purchase an application server and by managing their integration and development environments from the same framework. Customer business processes will be better automated due to the incorporation of legacy and J2EE-based applications in the same process, and they will experience higher availability and reliability of their integration and development environments due to fewer moving parts.

The tight integration will allow EJB business logic to directly call integration logic and vice versa without requiring any additional tools or work. A single business process definition can be created that transcends the two domains, allowing users to create universal business processes. Also, the powerful data transformation and distributed transaction management capability required by enterprise-class integrations will now be available to J2EE developers without an added programming burden.

webMethods will be the first commercial company providing support for JBoss technology, addressing any issues with the application server technology through 24x7 customer support.

How will WebMethods handle the issue that Sun will not license JBoss as J2EE compliant because of its opensouce license?

Glad to see that webMethods understands its value as a platform and what that means for the average j2ee application developer.

Seems like this will make it easier than ever to realize the true power of webservices + enterprise messaging + B2B. Their platform, being a Service-oriented architecture seems to play nicely here. Go webMethods.

Does anyone do everything they can do?
