New Coldfusion MX Products Bring Rapid Development Capabilities to Leading J2EE Servers

Macromedia, Inc. brings the ease and productivity of ColdFusion to the highly scalable, standards-based Java technology architecture with its new Macromedia ColdFusion MX for J2EE Application Servers. Versions of Macromedia ColdFusion MX, the rapid server scripting environment for creating rich Internet applications. have been specifically optimized for IBM WebSphere Application Server, Sun ONE, and Macromedia JRun. Each version is available for immediate download at www.macromedia.com/go/buycfmx/.

Macromedia and IBM jointly developed Macromedia ColdFusion MX for IBM WebSphere Application Server, and will work together through joint sales, marketing, and technical support. IBM is the first third-party J2EE platform provider company to resell a version of ColdFusion MX. ColdFusion MX for IBM WebSphere Application Server is available now from Macromedia and will be available for purchase via IBM's Passport Advantage at the end of September.

Macromedia and Sun Microsystems collaborated on the development of ColdFusion MX for Sun ONE, and will jointly execute sales and marketing activities. ColdFusion developers and J2EE developers can use ColdFusion MX for Sun ONE to share Java objects, which will increase development productivity and lower costs across IT organizations. Additionally, Web application developers without Java programming skills can easily leverage ColdFusion MX to productively build and deploy applications on the Sun ONE platform.

The ColdFusion MX for J2EE product line includes ColdFusion MX for JRun, a new product that enables customers to add ColdFusion MX capabilities to Macromedia JRun 4. Macromedia JRun 4 features full J2EE 1.3 compatibility, innovative clustering technology, and Web services integration. The pairing of ColdFusion MX for JRun with JRun 4 provides a complete and affordable server solution that meets the needs of both enterprise Java developers and mainstream Web application developers.

"ColdFusion MX for J2EE enables enterprises to harness the proven productivity of ColdFusion and enhance the return on their Java infrastructure investments," said Jeff Whatcott, senior director, Macromedia. "ColdFusion MX for J2EE makes it possible for mainstream developers to complete projects in less time and at a lower cost while taking full advantage of the powerful Java technology platform."

Macromedia plans a version of ColdFusion MX for BEA WebLogic by the end of this year.

"The new releases are going to enable ColdFusion developers to work even more closely with Java," said ColdFusion Developer's Journal editor-in-chief Robert Diamond. "One of the greatest benefits will be the ability to deploy higher-load applications, melding the scalability, reliability, and power of the Java language with CF," he added.
