Federal prosecutors and SEC lawyers interviewed Apple CEO Steve Jobs about Apple's backdating practices

Federal prosecutors and SEC lawyers interviewed Apple CEO Steve Jobs last week about Apple's backdating practices.

Nobody's talking about what transpired but doubtless the ground they covered included how an options award that went to him happened to be explained away by forged board minutes and how he came to sign an SEC disclosure attesting to the phony board meeting and price.

The Recorder, the legal sheet that broke the news, also says that Christopher Steskal, the US Attorney who's been leading the criminal investigation of Apple as well as any number of others and brought criminal backdating charges against Brocade executives, is leaving his post to go into private practice as a white-collar defense attorney next month with Fenwick & West. Fenwick does IP work for Apple.

Fenwick partner Dennis DeBroeck just happens to be married to ex-Apple general counsel Nancy Heinen, who's been blamed for ordering the forgery by the ex-Apple lawyer who apparently did it, Wendy Howell. Small world, isn't it?

Meanwhile, the New York City Employees' Retirement System is going to be the lead plaintiff in a shareholders suit seeking damages from Apple's backdating adventure.
