Gang of Two Pleas Guilty to Rare Economic Espionage Charge
Their grips searched and out poured all these confidential trade secrets from Sun Microsystems

Remember back in, oh, 2001, when a couple of engineers were nabbed at San Francisco Airport just before boarding a plane to China and had their grips searched and out poured all these confidential trade secrets from Sun Microsystems, Transmeta, NEC and Trident Microsystems?

They were going to set up a chip plant called Supervision and split the money with the city of Hanzhou and province of Zhejiang that they were getting funding from.

Well, last week Fei Ye, a 40-year-old US citizen from China, and Ming Zhong, a 39-year-old permanent US resident also from China, pleaded guilty to the uncommon charge of economic espionage to benefit a foreign country ahead of a trial in January. It is the first such conviction ever.

Sentencing is set for April 23. Until then they're free on bail. They could get 30 years but they made some kind of deal with the federal prosecutors.
