First 100 Attendees at @ThingsExpo Silicon Valley "Breakout Session & BoF" Will Receive a Prototype (November 4-6, Santa Clara Convention Center, California)
The Physical Web is an open web project within the Chrome team at Google. Scott Jenson (pictured below) leads a team that is working to leverage the scalability and openness of the web to talk to smart devices.
Scott will report on the state of this research in a sessioin and BOF called "The Physical Web" on November 4 at Internet of @ThingsExpo at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley.
"The physical Web uses Bluetooth low energy beacons to broadcast an URL wirelessly using an open protocol. Nearby devices can find all URLs in the room, rank them and let the user pick one from a list," according to Scott.
Each device is, in effect, a gateway to a web page. This unlocks entirely new use cases so devices can offer tiny bits of information or simple interactivity. Imagine smart posters, bus stops, dog ID collars, vending machines, or interactive kiosks, all universally accessible without installing additional apps.
Tracks and topics for Internet of @ThingsExpo will include:
Consumer IoT and Wearables Track
Enterprise IoT Track
IoT Developer and WebRTC Track
