HP Reportedly Dumps Sonsini
HP has sent the highest of high-powered Silicon Valley lawyers, Larry Sonsini, packing

HP has apparently dropped an expected shoe. In a widely picked-up story the New York Times said Thursday that HP has sent the highest of high-powered Silicon Valley lawyers, Larry Sonsini, packing, severing his long-standing advisory ties with its board.

He was the board's outside counsel and the guy who, after the fact, mind you, sanctioned the company's pretexting caper as "within legal limits" without cracking a law book.

He also debriefed Tom Perkins, the director who quit in a huff over the boardroom investigation, after Perkins resigned. There may be problems with the SEC filing HP made because it didn't explain why Perkins slammed out. Ergo the SEC investigation.

Sonsini testified at that congressional hearing alongside ousted HP chairman Patti Dunn in September. She of course is up on criminal charges because of the silliness.

Sonsini's got other problems as well. A number of the companies he's connected with are backdaters.

Wilson Sonsini, his law firm, will reportedly continue to do work for HP.

Speaking of board leaks, the unconfirmed Times story quotes a "person with close connections to the [HP] board."
